I was lucky enough to spend my New Year’s Eve with my family walking around the Christmas lights at the Mesa Temple. Six years ago my husband proposed to me there, and we like to visit the spot every year and see how the lights have changed (a little more red and a little less purple this year).

It’s a huge display and it’s free, so the kids love it and we don’t have to worry about shelling out a ton of money.

Even though it’s usually pretty crowded, I’ve never found another place that feels so peaceful. I love that this has become one of our yearly traditions, and I’m grateful to be able to share that with my kids. Hot chocolate and temple lights are always a winning combination!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, and to be honest the break has been very refreshing. I have a new job, I’m working on setting up my own business (health coaching/personal training), and overall this is just a busy season of life for me, so I’m going to aim to post weekly, but more than that will be as I have time.

Some quick updates — Micah has become a super helper in the kitchen. He hates taking off his Batman pajamas, but he loves to sneak downstairs and put away all of the plastic dishes and silverware (he’s great about leaving anything sharp or breakable for me). He told me he does it because he loves me and wants to make me happy — I’m such a lucky mom!

Jonah is growing like a weed, and likes to find flowers to give me anytime we’re outside. He’s super smart and likes to find ways to make me smile!

Kinsey is like a little adult, grown up enough to make me a little nauseated (but proud!). She’s started to develop a spunky little attitude that makes me nervous for teenage years, but she lights up my days and the boys idolize her.

My progress slowed over the holidays, so I will be starting a new fitness challenge (and super tightening up my diet) starting January 15th — let me know if you want to join me!

And the kids, especially the boys, have been joining me in my workouts whenever they’re awake. I’m taking my certification test to teach yoga today, so we’ve been practicing together and they LOVE it! It makes me really happy to be able to share my passion for fitness with them at such a young age, and I hope that’s something that stays with them long term.

I have so many goals for the new year, and I look forward to sharing them all with you guys!

What goals do you have for the year?

New Years Resolutions — yes or no?

Real life — progress versus perfection. As someone who works in the fitness industry I’m not particularly proud of how my post baby body looks right now. I see videos or look in the mirror and I see that unflattering angle where my butt looks huge, or my stomach rolls. But it’s important to remember where you started, and that fitness and health are a journey. When I see that I still have 30 pounds to lose, it feels embarrassing — but I look at where I started (200 pounds, unhealthy, and zero energy) and I realize I’m actually doing awesome in comparison. Focus on being a little better every day, remember that success is in the little things, and one day you’ll look at yourself and realize how far you’ve come.
It can be hard to keep your nutrition healthy when you’re traveling, especially when you’re not generally the one who’ll be cooking. But even in my parent’s house (and the airport), I found ways to load up of the green veggies and avocado, have a little meat, and kind of let the rest of the chips fall where they may. I didn’t count carbs or macros, but I stayed gluten free, grain free, and stayed away from anything that would make me feel sick. I ate a bit more fruit than usual, but my body reacted really well to it — I’m guessing the change in climate and jet lag had me needing something a bit extra. You can enjoy yourself and stay on track without making yourself crazy on vacation, just listen to your body, make the best choices you can, and know where to bend a little and where to draw hard lines on what will make you feel bad. #ketofriendly #lowcarbhealthyfat #saladlove #veggies #goals #vacationketostyle #nutritionplan #nutritioncoach #fitnesscoachlife. Made my own keto sushi today! Just some sushi nori (dried seaweed) with avocado, crab, shrimp, avocado, and one of the two rolls had cream cheese. Rolled it up tight and topped with some coconut aminos (instead of soy sauce) and they were delicious! And of course the lightsaber chopsticks were the perfect compliment 🤣 🤓 #healthyeats #ketosushi #sushiaddict #lowcarbhealthyfat #ketofriendly #bodyafterbabies
