As I’m sure many of you noticed, I haven’t been blogging in almost a year now. I took some time off to further my education, and to set myself up to launch my career as an online personal trainer, nutrition coach, and health coach.
I was already a personal trainer and group fitness instructor when I stopped writing, but I’m now a certified Crossfit Striking coach, and I have specialties in Sports Performance, Behavior Change, MMA Conditioning, Fitness Nutrition, and as of this weekend, Corrective Exercise (the final is in 2 days). As my own nutritional needs have taken a sharp turn towards low carb/keto, I’ve also taken Robb Wolf’s Keto Masterclass.
With all of that — I’m moving away from featuring my family as prominently (especially as the kids get old enough to wish for more privacy) and move into a more fitness/nutrition focus. I’ll probably still occasionally post a picture or a funny story, it just won’t be one of the main topics of the blog anymore.
Just a small update on me — I’m still doing Crossfit, Olympic weight training, and Crossfit Striking regularly. I hit a plateau here and there, but I’m down more than 30 pounds now, and even though the scale has been a little fickle lately, my clothes are much looser and I’m losing inches, so the scale will follow. I still have anywhere between 20-30 pounds left to hit my pre-pregnancy weight, and if I keep up my current rate of progress that should happen before Easter. I’ll start doing bi-weekly or monthly weigh-ins again as well!
There’s still a part of me that has a lot of trouble posting videos like that, because I’m not all the way to my goal weight. It can be difficult to work in the fitness industry and not have a six pack (YET!), but it helps when I look back and see how far I’ve come — this was 30 pounds ago, and the difference in my strength and stamina now is just unbelievable. I struggled with hormonal imbalances for several years after my pregnancies, and getting that handled and my hormones re-balanced were a total game changer!
Getting back in shape has given me so much of my life back that I didn’t even know was missing — and I know with the last 20 or so pounds the energy and other benefits will only increase. I keep up better with my kids, I’m managing the house better, my mental clarity and emotional health are wildly better than they used to be — I even landed a supporting lead in a local musical, and had the stamina and coordination to sing AND dance at the same time! 😛
I’ve been sharing my progress, healthy eating tips, and workout ideas mostly on Facebook and Instagram, but I’m going to be back here as well, at least once or twice a week. I’m excited to announce that I’m going to be taking on new clients in January, starting with a 90 day New Year’s challenge that will not only provide nutrition and exercise advise, but also habit coaching and personalized accountability.
The reality is that between Google and Pinterest, you can find any number of workouts, and a ton of diet advice — what really makes the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is the ability to integrate those concepts into your life, and adapt them to set you up for long term success.
One of the reasons I decided to specialize in behavior change is because there is no shortage of information on how to get in shape, increase performance markers, and cook healthy foods. If information was all we need, the obesity epidemic would already be over — but instead it’s worse than ever. Between weekly accountability check ins and email/text availability for questions, your program can be adapted to fit the changes in your life so that you actually stick to it — automating positive habits and ditching the ones that don’t serve your goals.
