I have to apologize — I didn’t schedule the last few posts to publish at the right times, which is why you got 3 posts in the last 18 hours or so. I’m not sure what happened, I’m generally smarter than my computer but it got the best of me for a few days. #bloggerfail
A few weeks ago I talked about doubling up on workouts and how to prevent over-training, and last week was the perfect example.
For some reason, I was ridiculously sore on Tuesday — way more than usual. I was also exhausted and lethargic, and as much as I didn’t want to, I decided to skip my workout. I was planning on doing a workout on Beachbody On Demand because I didn’t have a car to get to Crossfit, but I was out of it enough that even yoga sounded awful.
While I’m not usually an advocate of blowing off your workout, it’s still important to listen to your body and not ignore when it needs a break. I’ve been doubling up workouts 2-4 times per week for more than a month, so I decided an extra rest day was exactly what my body needed. I’m so glad I listened, because I was able to come back strong on Wednesday for another double workout!
I took it easy again on Thursday with a recovery workout, but I still stayed active through the day playing with the kiddos. I’ve also been really watching my nutrition to make sure I’m properly fueling so many workouts and staying hydrated, especially since there’s no end in sight to the 3 digit temperatures here. Overall I’m feeling great though, and I’m really looking forward to my weigh in at the end of the month!
Have you changed up your workouts for the summer?
What type of workout do you prefer? Cardio, weight training, boot camp style, Crossfit…?
