One of the best things about living in Arizona is that there’s no shortage of options for splash pads and pools to keep the kids cool. With the boys at this age, it’s really difficult to take them to an actual pool because neither of them can swim and they’re both fearless — I’m terrified of one of them getting away from me and going under. There’s a new splash pad about 15 minutes from our house and I think it’s the perfect alternative! It’s fenced in so I don’t have to worry about anyone running away, and there’s plenty of shaded seating for parents. I wish it didn’t get quite so crowded because it’s a big area and Micah loves to run as far away from me as possible, but it’s still so much more relaxing than trying to brave the pool.

They were all so excited to wear their new swimsuits! Jonah still seems to hate the water though — he cried every time he got even the tiniest splash of water on his feet.

I’ve also been working on cleaning up our backyard so we can play out there when it’s too hot to walk to the park. The kids love chalk, and the back patio has been the perfect spot for them. There’s still a lot of work to do to get it ready to let the kids run around whenever they want, but after picking up 15 bags of weeds, dog poop, and trash (the dogs drag it outside whenever they get into the garbage) I’m pretty proud of myself. I still have to pull the weeds and small bushes on the border of the yard, get the grass to grow (we finally seeded last weekend), get rid of our old picnic table (it’s a splintery mess), and find a place to put the trampoline outside. It’s a work in progress, but I think it’s going to turn out really awesome!

On days the kids get up early, we can usually manage a little bit of time at the park before it gets too hot.

Gymnastics and soccer — the perfect mix, right?

Jonah doesn’t like how grass and dirt feel, so every time he sat down to rest he insisted on standing without touching the ground at all. So cute!

On a slightly down note, my SUV seems to be dying so I’ve been mostly home-bound whenever the hubby is working the last few weeks. We walk to the park or the store, but if we actually need the car to go anywhere further we have to get up at 4:30 to drive the hubby to work. I was hoping the boys would sleep through the trip, but I had to settle for a long nap instead. I love how Jonah wouldn’t put down his dog to eat his banana, it just makes me want to snuggle him!

Every couple of weeks the kids ask to have a sleepover, either in the loft with a movie or in the boys’ room. Micah loves the extra time playing with Kinsey (especially in the loft), but Jonah is all about the snuggling.

They’re so cuddly and affectionate with each other!

Usually we walk to the store in the double stroller, but we actually drove to the store so they were excited to ride in the police car stroller. They actually behaved really well, especially since Fry’s now has a basket of free fruit for kids while we shop. Micah wouldn’t touch a thing (as per usual) but Jonah’s apple kept him happy and quiet. 🙂

I don’t know if it’s summer or just random, but I’m craving salads like crazy the last 2 weeks. I’m eating a bag of spinach a day, and still craving more. It feels good to be wanting greens so much again, it hasn’t been like that since I got pregnant the first time.

I can’t wait to see what else this summer brings!
